Upgrade version 9.5 update 4 to higher version

Post by DieBuffel »

Hi

Please assist. I am upgrading my VMware from 6.7 to version 8.0. What Veeam package do I need to install to run with VMware vSphere Standard version 8.0? We have an existing licence for Version 9.5 Update 4. Will there be a cost to upgrade?

Appreciate any help.

Hi Mark

vSphere + Veeam Backup & Replication support matrix: https://www.veeam.com/kb2443
What Veeam package do I need to install to run with VMware vSphere Standard version 8.0?
At least version 12.2 is required for the latest vSphere 8 update. But the most recent version is recommended (v12.3.2 or v13.0.1)
We have an existing licence for Version 9.5 Update 4. Will there be a cost to upgrade?
There’s no cost to upgrade if you have an active maintenance contract. However, if you haven’t updated Veeam Backup & Replication for 7–8 years, it’s likely that your maintenance has expired.
An upgrade path from v9.5 to v13 is no longer recommended due to the version gap; a clean deployment with the latest version is advised.

Recommendation:
- If you have 10 or fewer workloads, deploy a new v13 backup server on a fresh Windows host. Create new backup jobs and import your old backups for restore purposes — you can even map the new jobs to the imported backups.
- If you have more than 10 workloads, please contact our sales team first to purchase a new license. When you got your license, deploy a new backup server and recreate your backup jobs.

Best,

Hi,

you can find the minimum required version in this KB: https://www.veeam.com/kb2443. For VMWare 8 this would be one of the V12s, depending on the update.
Your version is very much out of date, EOL even. So I don't think you have an active maintenance contract for that old license. What exactly your cost would be depends and would best be discussed with a Veeam sales representative or a local Veeam Partner.
