v13 - why install Dell/HPE when "add Managed Windows Server"

Post by DerOest »

Hi there,

trying to add a Windows Server under Backup Infrastructure -> Managed Servers -> Microsoft Windows.
Why the heck is "HPE StoreOnce Library" and "Dell Data Domain Library" being installed?
With no option to NOT install it.
We don't use any kind of HPE or Dell equipment.

I don't want that installed on my servers! Attack surface reduction, bloat, whatever - it just does not belong on managed servers!

The feature creep in v12 was annoying (MS EntraID and Cloud Plugins), but it has gotten worse in v13.
Now it clutters the GUI even more. Its plain annoying that we can't choose to install just the plugins we need, but not all others.
You can't even uninstall them, as it will have you reinstall "HPE StoreOnce Library" and "Dell Data Domain Library" when you start the Management Console the next time ("Updates needed for these components" or something like that)

They were always installed as a part of transport (for over 10 years now). V13 simply adds more visibility on their presence and the ability to uninstall. In case you have issues uninstalling, please open a support case and we will take a look.
