Hello,
Would it be possible to add and remove console user permissions via PowerShell — using functionality similar to VBR’s Add-VBRUserRoleAssignment?
Due to MFA requirements, users must be added directly as console users, and doing this manually through the console is unnecessarily time-consuming.
As a medium-sized MSP, we manage hundreds of tenants in VBO, and naturally, there is considerable variation in which users require access. Almost all user provisioning and permission assignments are automated on our side — except for example VBO, where this is currently not possible.
The Restore Portal is not a viable option for us. Many of our customers do not want to install an application or create a dedicated restore user in their Entra ID solely for the purpose of allowing us to manage their backups. Several customers require a “service model,” where they do not perform restores themselves but rely entirely on us. In our experience, using the backup console/explorers provides the best workflow for this.
We are simply missing automation support for user provisioning and permission management via PowerShell (or potentially an API).
