New V13 application backup to AWS - MS SQL - Individual Databases

Post by bplummer »

In v13, there is a new application backup method that directly backs up to AWS or another S3-based object storage. It's nice that this new alternative option exists, but sadly, for MS SQL you cannot select and back up specific databases. You can only back up all databases with MS SQL instance/server. It would be great if there were more granularity with this backup method.

Currently, the only way to back up specific databases with an MS SQL database is to use the application plugin method. The downsides of that method are that you can't use a backup copy job to off-site the data to AWS or another cloud provider. Also, you can't use the related Explorer app for MS SQL to facilitate tasks like an instant table clone for quick recovery.

Hi Brent,

May I ask if you’re referring to Microsoft SQL Server on-premises or hosted as an AWS service?
I assume it’s Microsoft SQL Server on-premises, so I’ve moved your topic from the Veeam Backup for AWS forum to the Applications forum.
The downsides of that method are that you can't use a backup copy job to off-site the data to AWS or another cloud provider.
Our Veeam Plug-in for Microsoft SQL Server v13 supports direct backups or backup copies to object storage.
Also, you can't use the related Explorer app for MS SQL to facilitate tasks like an instant table clone for quick recovery.
Agreed, this isn’t currently possible. Only restore on database level. We can note it as a feature request.

Best,
