Restore public folders to MS365

Post by vanlier »

Hello,

we have the virtual disk of an old exchange server which wasn't backed up with Veeam at the time. A previous person did a public folder migration when migration to MS365 using another back-up software but the resulting mails are incomplete.

I installed Veeam B&R on a new server as we will use that for future back-ups. I ran Veeam explorer for Exchange and mounted to exchange database file (.edb). I tried to restore to MS365 using the context menu. I created an azure application with (I think) the correct permissions. Only thing missing is applicationimpersonation as Microsoft has deprecated it. When trying to restore the topfolder is created but subfolders won't because the original permissions for the local user (administrator) is the sole owner of the topfolder (it's using the current user running the veeam explorer I think). As this is a server I don't have an option to run Veeam as the 365 admin account, only local account. Is it possible to restore the public folder without first exporting to PST and manually importing? It's a lot of folders and data (200GB+).

Hi Vanlier,

To restore to M365, you now should use an app with a certificate and permissions listed here. It should work for any type of data.

Were there any errors displayed when you first attempted to restore?
