Feature Request: Quick backup for PVE
A little background:
My team is currently conducting a proof of concept to validate functionality of proxmox. One thing we have noticed that could be helped with the support of VEEAM is the lack of maturity of the proxmox snapshotting feature. Specifically when using an iscsi SAN, we are forced to use LVM which does not support snapshots.
As I looked around for alternative features that could replace snapshotting, I was made aware of the quick backup feature available for VMware vm backup jobs where you can go to Inventory (within Veeam B&R) > select your vmware cluster > select a specific vm. You will see the options to complete an incremental backup using the same backup job configuration that it is in already. However, this feature is currently unavailable for proxmox.
Could we get this added?

+1 from us, hope this makes it into the next release (it's not in 13.0.1 for anyone wondering).

Re: Feature Request: Quick backup for PVE
Hi,
with PVE 9.1 you can at least create a new LVM on iSCSI that support snapshots.
--- Create LVM in PVE GUI ---
Allow Snapshots as Volume-Chain
Snapshots as Volume-Chain are a technology preview.
Keep Snapshots as Volume-Chain enabled if qcow2 images exist!
---
Still a +1 for Quick backup and also important to restore only selected disks, instead of the whole VM.

Re: Feature Request: Quick backup for PVE
Hi,
thanks for adding the PVE 9.1 update on shared LVM-Thick snapshots.
What I read is that this is still considered an experimental (non-production) feature from Proxmox side and you need at least 100% of the origin disk space per each snapshot.
So this is currently a still a big show stopper for migrations of those common existing ESX environments with a couple of hosts and a shared FC or iSCSI SAN...
For most cases the veeam quick backup feature would be enough to get those projects going. Thanks everyone for sharing feedback.
Best, Manfred
