[V13] VIA - Use iSCSI LUN as backup repo
Hi everyone,
I am trying to map an iSCSI LUN from a QNAP NAS directly to a Veeam Infrastructure Appliance (VIA) to use it as a regular, not-hardened, backup repository.
What I have done:
- Logged into the VIA terminal as root.
- Successfully connected the iSCSI target.
- Formatted the disk as XFS and mounted it to a custom directory (e.g., /mnt/backuprepo).
- Added the mount point to /etc/fstab.
- Verified that the directory has appropriate permissions for the veeamadmin account.
The Problem:
When adding the VIA as a Repository in the Veeam Backup & Replication console, the wizard only displays the default internal path (e.g., /var/lib/veeam). My custom iSCSI mount point at /mnt/backuprepo is not visible or selectable when browsing for a path.
Question:
Is there a specific requirement or a "sealed" configuration within the Veeam Infrastructure Appliance that prevents it from recognizing external iSCSI mounts as valid repository paths?
Do I need to mount the LUN under a specific sub-directory for the VIA to pick it up?
Thanks!

Hi, it's "sealed" indeed. However, we're looking at making it a supported option to add and manage external storage in the next minor release. Thanks

Hello,
Could you try, making a Symbolic Link from /mnt/backuprepo on /var/lib/veeam ??
It´s like a shortcut.
Regards,
Oscar

Re: [V13] VIA - Use iSCSI LUN as backup repo
happy to see this post before our upgrade.
we also have a /mnt/backuprepo situation in our v12. will upgrade server/repo allow the already existing mount, or should we wait for next v13?

As @fabian.kessler just heard I'll second this request for storage management within the :10443 of the VSA. I have a use case and would love to see this.
