FEATURE REQUEST: View access for backup setting

Post by cresch »

Currently, without assigning a user the Manage Backup role, there isn't any way for them to be able to view (but not change) backup settings. If they do have this role, then they can change as well.

If it's a backup operator role, they can perform restore operations, but have no visibility into what is (or isn't) currently being backed up.

Ideally, we would like an option to have a read-only view of this data to see, but not change, any of the backup settings (comes into play when performing audit and verification functions).

Hi,

You can tick the “View Backups” option without ticking “Manage Backups” within the OneUI to achieve this today.

For a full list of each RBAC setting and what it grants access to, see here: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vdc/u ... ustom.html

Yes, you can absolutely check the View Backups attribute without the Manage Backups attribute.

Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to fully do what it implies. With that checked, while you can LIST the backup policies, you cannot actually click in to view the details about the backup job (at least not that I've been able to see). There is no View option...only Edit/Start/Stop/Enable/Disable/Delete (all of which are grayed out without the Manage Backups permissions).

Thank you for clarifying. I see the nuance of what you’re saying. With the View Backups RBAC you can see session history which gives you an idea of what was protected and any errors but yes you can’t see the configuration itself due to the lack of edit button.

We’ll raise this for consideration.

Thanks!
