Sql VM T-log backup in Veeam 13 windows Version appliance based
Hello there,
I want to know if there is someone who has tested Sql backups in particular In Veeam version 13. We use azure appliance to back up our VM workloads and willing to test Sql VM backup in Veeam version 13 but unable to get the proper documentation on how is it done. Note - the sql server in windows based in Azure and not the Azure sql we are talking about and when we try to search for the VM in database tab it says no VM found as Veeam appliance cant detect Sql windows based VM directly. Veeam docuentation does not clear the part as well only gives the idea for the ports and so on. If anyone has already implemented this scenario do shed some light. Thanks

Hi,
Looks like you want/should use the Veeam Agent for Windows deployed within those virtual machines to benefit from transaction log backup. These can be deployed manually or managed via VBR.

Hi @nielsengelen, No we don't want to go with the Veeam agent for windows that's the in general setup in Veeam backup and replication but here we have Veeam azure appliance in which we want to protect the SQL workloads, In Veeam 13 windows version we already have the SQL plugin so that discards the use of Veeam agent but thanks for the feedback. am still open to other suggestions

We currently do not support transaction log support within VB for Azure. Therefor, the only workaround would be to use the agent or the MSSQL plugin.
Am I correct in understanding from your last sentence that you already use the plugin to connect to this VM?

HI there, We have a traditional Veeam backup and replication where we are using agent-based backups for SQL servers, But We got to know from Veeam management itself over the call that in Veeam 13 windows version you guys can use SQL plugin to directly backup your SQL instances in Veeam azure appliance for transaction log backups.

You can use Veeam Backup & Replication with the plugin for those servers but within the Veeam Backup for Azure appliance, there is no plugin since this is already available in Veeam Backup & Replication.
Hope this helps clarifying so you can set it up.

i was hoping that we had some functionality to manage and create SQL T-logs backup and manage it through Veeam azure appliance, likewise as u said the SQL plugin will be installed on the server itself which will be configured to be connected to the VBR which runs the azure appliance and then in azure appliance we can setup database or SQL server backup policies.
