Seeking Guidance on Automating VM Restore Verification for OLVM (oVirt KVM) with Veeam B&R 13

Post by dcaamano »

Hi everyone,

This is my first post in the forum. I’m currently using Veeam Backup & Replication v13 on Windwos Server to protect virtual machines running on the Oracle Linux Virtualization Platform (OLVM / oVirt KVM). For audit and compliance purposes, I need to provide proof that the backups of our protected VMs are restorable and functional.

The SureBackup feature in VBR would normally be ideal for this type of validation, but unfortunately SureBackup does not currently support OLVM/oVirt KVM workloads. Because of this limitation, I’ve developed a manual process that behaves similarly to SureBackup (isolated network, test-boot, shutdown, cleanup), and I am now working on automating the whole workflow.

At the moment I’m experimenting with PowerShell to automate the restore portion, and later I plan to orchestrate the end‑to‑end workflow using our Ansible/Tower environment. However, I haven’t yet found a PowerShell or REST API command that performs automated VM restores for OLVM. So far I can interact with the environment, but the restore step itself is unclear.

My question:
Has anyone here automated VM restores on OLVM/oVirt using Veeam, If so, how did you handle the restore API calls or scripting? I’m especially interested in any examples, workarounds, or documentation for triggering restores programmatically, whether through Veeam PowerShell, REST API, or external orchestration tools.

Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
