Get GFS retention type weekly monthly yearly

Post by Marcus.A »

Hi

Is it possible to retrieve what type of GFS retention is applied to full restore points? With Get-VBRRestorePoint restore points are marked as fulls and incrementals but I can't find a way to list what retention they currently have, for example if a full is marked as a Monthly. Is it possible?

Thanks

Hi Marcus,

With unsupported methods yes:

Code: Select all

$backup = Get-VBRBackup -Name "Backup with GFS Points"
$backup.GetAllChildrenStorages() | select PartialPath, GfsPeriod

PartialPath                                     GfsPeriod
-----------                                     ---------
fk-aws-ubuntu_BackupD2026-01-29T000602_7A86.vib      None
fk-aws-ubuntu_BackupD2026-01-25T000850_B697.vbk    Weekly
fk-aws-ubuntu_BackupD2026-01-04T000747_E68A.vbk   Monthly
fk-aws-ubuntu_BackupD2026-01-11T000808_8ED2.vbk    Weekly
fk-aws-ubuntu_BackupD2026-01-18T001100_0721.vbk    Weekly
fk-aws-ubuntu_BackupD2026-01-26T000419_3D9D.vib      None
fk-aws-ubuntu_BackupD2026-01-27T000503_0DF3.vib      None
fk-aws-ubuntu_BackupD2026-01-28T000659_FAAB.vib      None
If you need to match a storage (backup file) with a restore point, another unsupported method gets you there fast:

Code: Select all

$storage = $backups.GetAllChildrenStorages()
$rp = $storage[0].GetOibs() #We call 0 from the index as an example here, returns first storage from the $storage array
