Feature Request - Option To Take Incremental Backup
During troubleshooting, when needing to start a backup for a single machine in a group of many, the only option is to right-click and select "Active Full". I would very much like to see an option added for "Incremental". Taking an Active Full takes longer, uses more space by nature, but also hurts your retention policies, as if you have a max of 15 set, it now has to keep 30 because it can't remove the original Full nor any of it's incrementals until the new Full has 14 new incrementals.
Work arounds such as:
1. Excluding all the machine except the one you want a new incremental for, adjusting the time for the group of machines to a new time, letting the schedule run, then undoing all the exclusions and setting the time back is a lot to ask. We're in the year 2026.
2. Rescheduling the entire group to take is problematic, as groups that have 20-60 machines in them (like ours), is not something I want to occur just to get a new incremental for the 1 or two machines I am interested in.
Does anyone else share this frustration or see value in this as a feature request?
Thanks in advance!

Re: Feature Request - Option To Take Incremental Backup
Hi ply2026, welcome to the forums.
Have a look at Quick Backup -- I'm not quite sure what your needs are wrt troubleshooting, but QuickBackup fits the requirement as I see it for on-demand incremental backup.

Re: Feature Request - Option To Take Incremental Backup
David,
Thank you for your reply, perhaps I should have mentioned that my machines are Physical and now Virtual, so this solution will not work in my scenario. I am backing up around 100 physical machines, not VM's. There's no Quick Backup option for physical workloads protected by Veeam. With physical machine backups, the only option when performing a manual backup is "Active Full".

Hi Jeremy,
Thanks for the additional details, but in fact we have Quick Backup for Veeam Agents as well.

Re: Feature Request - Option To Take Incremental Backup
David,
I do not see the option you speak of. In your screenshot, when I go to "Inventory --> Physical Infrastructure" and then right-click the machines on the right, there is only an option to "Add backup to job" --> New job, or select from all the jobs I have created on the Home --> Jobs screen. I am not sure why on this screen I would need to add the machines to a job, because they are already on a job, on the "Home" screens "Jobs" section. We have all the machines imported in from Active directory on the Inventory screen, then on the Home --> Jobs area, we just add the AD group. Is this configured wrongly?
Thanks,
Jeremy

Re: Feature Request - Option To Take Incremental Backup
For giggles, I went ahead and added a machine to the appropriate backup job, but all that did was double add it. It was in the AD group on the job, but then listed a 2nd time outside the AD group (a-la-cart), so this doesn't really matter. However, the "Quick Backup" option is still completely missing when I right-click - it's not even an option.

Hi,
Regrettably cannot explain it based on your description, if you're not seeing the option as shown in the User Guide, best to Open a Support Case and ask Support to check the situation with you.

Re: Feature Request - Option To Take Incremental Backup
I have opened a case with Veeam Support and just got off a call where I was able to remote share my screen. The Support Agent (Tyler) saw the issue right away. He said per the article found here: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/archive/ba ... start.html , that "A full backup file for the protected computer exists on the backup repository configured in the backup infrastructure and is mapped to a backup job managed by the backup server." is our issue. The key words that apply to our situation is that the backup jobs must be managed by the backup server. In our case, the agent machines manage the jobs. The reason for this is because server management licensing in Veeam is a 1 to 1, while agent managed machines are a 3 to 1. We have 130 agents, so if we switched to have them all managed by the server, each agent would require an individual "Server" license (1 to 1). Without throwing around our renewal numbers we paid last year, I did the math on what it would have looked like had we switched from agent managed to server managed backups in 2025; it would have cost us an additional $7,000. The product, for us, would not be affordable anymore at that point.
I would still like to see a feature request submitted for when management is performed by the agents, so that the "Incremental" or "Quick Backup" option is made available. If push came to shove and we had to have this and were told the only way to achieve it were to pay $7,000 more a year, Veeam would no longer be in the cards for us.

Re: Feature Request - Option To Take Incremental Backup
Thanks for sharing the results, and glad that Support was able to shine light on the issue right away.
We will consider the request for Quick Backup on Managed by Agent deployments.
