Transitioning from Flex to Foundation - Azure Marketplace Subscription Renewal

Post by hrai »

Hi everyone,

I currently have a Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 subscription that I purchased through the Microsoft Azure Marketplace. My current plan is Flex, and the subscription is set to expire on March 19, 2026. I've seen the recent announcements regarding the renaming of plans (Foundation, Advanced, and Premium) as of January 2, 2026. Since "Flex" is effectively being replaced by "Foundation," I have a couple of questions regarding my upcoming renewal:
  • Automatic Transition: Will my Azure Marketplace subscription automatically renew as a Foundation plan on March 19, or do I need to manually select a new plan within the Azure Portal to avoid service disruption?
  • Plan Upgrades: If I decide to switch from the Foundation tier to the Advanced tier (to include Entra ID backup), can I make that change directly through the Azure "SaaS" resource management page at the time of renewal?
  • Retention Impact: We currently maintain a 25-year retention policy. Will the renaming of the plan from Flex to Foundation impact existing backups or the legacy retention settings already established?
For context, I manage the subscription entirely through the Azure Portal, and we are currently protecting 36 licensed users plus a number of shared mailboxes and ex-staff (unlicensed) OneDrive accounts that were backed up while they were active staff. Thanks in advance for any insights or guidance from the Veeam team or others who have already gone through the Marketplace renewal process this year!

Hi!

So Flex is now Foundation so nothing will change there other than the change of label!

If you procured a fixed term you’ll need to renew, but if you’re monthly rolling then it’ll continue. And based on that is whether you can self uplift (monthly rolling lets you do this) or need to place an order to get to Advanced or Premium tiers.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the response micoolpaul. We are on an annual subscription on Azure Marketplace. I guess I have 6 weeks to decide if I want to upgrade to Advanced or just stay as-is.

I’d suggest reaching out to your Veeam sales team to find out more. In addition to the upcoming threat Center being Advanced & above, it also includes Entra ID protection so if either of those things are important to you you’ll be able to better understand what Veeam Data Cloud can bring to you.

Hope that helps!
