Question regarding Veeam Infrastructure Appliance

Post by Didi7 »

Hello everybody, I would like to know in which environment VIA is permitted to work?

I know it's usable with the new Veeam Software Appliance, but as far as I have noticed the new VIA cannot be used in conjunction with Veeam B&R Community Edition, right? Is a VUL licensed necessary to use VIA or can VIA be used with socket-based Veeam B&R as well?

In case of Veeam B&R Community Edition you are forced to use your own Windows or Linux supplied Proxy installation, right?

Thanks for any clarification.

Regards,

Hello,

Veeam Infrastructure Appliance can be used as a proxy or repository with Veeam Backup & Replication v13.x Community edition (that is on Windows only)
There is no limitation on that, except that without a maintenance contract, you can't use Updater. So no hotfixes\patches. If a new ISO version is released, you will need to reinstall (there is a preserve current data option there, to just reinstall the base OS).
Look for "JeOS image" keyword.

Hello and thanks for your quick reply.

I know that JeOS can be installed, but as you mentioned the Updater doesn't work. Does the Updater of JeOS work, if you install a Windows Veeam B&R based server with a socket-based license or is VUL required? That's the real question!

Hello,

Yes, with a socket-based license on VBR v13 on Windows, it will still work just fine and will use all updater functionality.
It is also stated here: Feature Comparison Vul Sockets
Key word: "New Veeam Updater", where it shows the usage with Veeam Socket License.
