Restore portal
Is it possible to save team files to a local drive of the end user using the restore portal? In case m365 is not available we want to provide end users the ability to restore files locally to use these files in a temporary workspace outside teams.

Re: Restore portal
Hello lowlander
It's not yet possible to "download files locally" through the Restore Portal.
For now the customer has to ask you todo the restore with Explorers or use his own Explorers through a Veeam Cloud Connect connection.
Best,
Fabian

Re: Restore portal
Hi Mildur,
to be on the same page: Regarding a worst case scenario where Microsoft 365 services are degraded and files are critical, access to files is only possible with the use of the Veeam Explorer for Microsoft Teams.
We want to provide key users the possibility to save files from the Teams backup, by installing the Veeam Explorer on a central "restore server" with local storage where files can be saved. Is it possible to define a restore scope when using the Veeam Explorer in order to give key users minimal rights to restore specific Teams files from library, private channel or shared channel ?
V365 server, backups and restore server should be on-premises.

Re: Restore portal
Hi Lowlander,
Unfortunately, we do not have RBAC roles with restore scopes for Veeam Explorer for Teams, Exchange, or SharePoint. Currently, we only have a backup administrator role in Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365.
If you grant a user access to the VB365 controller to use the Explorers, they will have visibility into backups from all protected objects (Exchange, OneDrive, SharePoint, and Teams) and will have permission to manage the entire backup server.
We will note your request for a download button in the restore portal.
Best,
Fabian
Correct. Today, Veeam Explorer for Teams (or SharePoint) has to be used to used to "export" files from a restore point to a local disk.to be on the same page: Regarding a worst case scenario where Microsoft 365 services are degraded and files are critical, access to files is only possible with the use of the Veeam Explorer for Microsoft Teams.

[MERGED] Feature request - download from restore portal
This might have been requested in the past but as a service provider doing backup as a service for over 800 organizations we are quite often asked to perform such tasks (i.e : pst export). Also now some customers are reluctant to remain with the solution since this feature is becoming mandatory.
To my understanding this is available on VDC so it should be easy to implement on a future revision of vb365 ?
Thanks

Re: Restore portal
Hi Thomas,
I merged your request with the existing topic. The request for PST export isn’t forgotten, but other items currently have higher priority.
Unfortunately, I can’t provide any information on when this feature may arrive.
Regarding VDC, what you see is a separate web frontend that leverages API endpoints from Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365.
In theory, a partner could build their own Web Frontend with similar functionality as VDC for Microsoft 365 by leveraging the same APIs.
Some of our larger partners are already doing this for their Microsoft 365 backup service offerings with Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365.
That said, I fully understand that not every service provider has the in-house resources to build their own Web Frontend for customers to consume services.
Best,
Fabian
