Gateway Server Need or not

Post by apolloxm »

Hello,
We are going to use Object First as our Primary backup repository. We also had backup copy job directly to Azure. Base my understanding, Object First and Azure are object storage. So, We need a gateway server. However, Object First engineer told me that we don't need the gateway server. I don't believe about this. My question.
Can you help to confirm whether we need a gateway server? If need. Can we configure both Object First and Azure to the same gateway server? Is the gateway server to be a physical server or Virtual machine

Hi Apollo

A gateway server is required for object storage repositories, but your backup server or other components can act as the gateway server if you don’t want to deploy additional machines.
In the object storage repository settings, you can select between "Direct" and "Through a gateway server connection" mode. Direct will automatically select one of the infrastructure components as the gateway server for the copy session.

Please review this Help Center article for details.

Yes, you can use the same gateway server for both repositories (assuming it has network access to both endpoints).
Is the gateway server to be a physical server or Virtual machine
Either is supported—use whichever fits your design.
