Preferred IVMR Mount Server

Post by MVanek »

Hello to all of you
I have curious question about V13 and vPower NFS handling of Instant VM recovery.
Iam aware of how NFS and IR cache works together with repos, proxies and whole flow.

What is unclear to me, how can I configure to prefer Linux mount server as IR cache for Instant VM recovery.
I have noticed, when I have Windows and Linux mount server and I want to start IVMR, it always prefers Windows mount server for IR Cache.

The scenario is - I have Linux VSA Veeam Server (Dell PowerEdge) based on NVME drives (capacity about few TiBs) for IR Cache.
I also have another Dell PowerEdge as a primary repository (Hardened Repo via Veeam Infrastructure Appliance).
My plan is to have linux based components as much as I can. I just only need Windows Mount server for Guest OS File recovery etc...
Since I have limited HW options i have decided to place Windows Mount Server for those purposes as a VM to vSphere.

But when I launch IVMR, veeam always prefer this Windows VM as vPower NFS server, EVEN when I set the default mount server to be the Linux VSA.
When I disable/remove Windows Mount Server from Veeam Configuration, it works right. But when any Windows Mount Server exists, its always preferred as mount server for IVMR.
Am I missing something?

Thanks for help
Regards
Martin

Hello, Martin,

Thank you for reporting that - interesting.
Can you please clarify few details? What workloads are we talking about? Like what types of VMs you are using for IVMR? Linux/Windows? What types of repositories are these backups stored in?
Do you use IVMR for V2V migrations or you just IR to the original hypervisor?
