SAP HANA Backup to Tape

Post by hcollier »

Hello, I am currently switching all our organisation’s back requirements to Veeam Backup & Replication. I have recently incorporated our SAP HANA-DB into Veeam as well via the Backint interface and the Veeam plug-in for SAP HANA. The process has already been set up for our and also works without any problems. I have set it up so the backup is written via a SAP HANA Backup job to a local Veeam disk repository on the backup server. We would like to save the backup on a tape in a second step for log term and off-site storage .However, this does not seem to be possible since you cannot select the SAP HANA Backup jobs here, you would have to select the "Backup Repositories" variant in the job configuration. This then presupposes that you run the SAP HANA jobs on a separate repository and only secure this one rather than a series of ’snapshots'.

I am new to Veeam and would really appreciate knowing where I am going wrong?

Hi Henry, welcome to the forums.

Currently Veeam does not support any of the Enterprise Application Plugin backups to tape.

This is a known request for all the plugins and we're working on it, but no further information to share at this time.

While it is possible to tape-out the backup files with a File to Tape job, this is not advised / supported as there is high chance for difficulties with restoring from tape.
