Feature request - Directory exclusion on Proxmox VE VM

Post by bcallar »

Hi,
Before I switch to Proxmox VE from VMWare, I used to use Directory exclusion on VM backup.

This feature is very useful when some big directories are not needed in a backup :
- Replicated directory from DC, no need to backup this dir because there is already a backup on DC
- Work files or cache files not needed in backups

I know we can exclude a disk, but the data we want to exclude is not always on separate disk (for replicated directory for example)

I don't understand why this feature was not implemented on Proxmox VE Jobs, but it is on VMWare. It is using Guest Application processing, is should be hypervisor agnostic, isn't it ?
Is there any way to enable it ?

Regards
Ben

Hello,
and welcome to the forums.

That feature is very complex in the background. That's why it doesn't exist. One needs to do a reverse calculation from "NTFS blocks" to "hypervisor blocks".

Your feature request is valid, but we cannot provide a timeline for it.

Best regards
Hannes
