[Feature Request] Application Item Restore for Veeam Backup for Microsoft Azure

We are transitioning more to Azure. It would be HUGE to be able to restore application items from Veeam Backup for Microsoft Azure. We would specifically benefit from AD, SQL, and Oracle application level restores.

After extensive testing, I was not easily able to restore an AD object from Veeam Backup for Microsoft Azure to an AD server in Azure. In Azure we have a VBR server and a Veeam Backup for Microsoft Azure server. Since Application level restores are not available in Veeam Backup for Microsoft Azure, and Veeam Explorer for Microsoft Active Directory does not support restoring directly from a restored NTDS file, the only way to restore was to do a file level restore in Veeam Backup for Microsoft Azure of 2 different AD Server folders, copy the NTDS files to a machine that has Veeam Explorer for Microsoft Active Directory installed, Load the NTDS file and then export the object in Veeam Explorer for Microsoft Active Directory, copy the exported object to and AD Controller, and then run the ldifde.exe command to import it manually.

I also worked with support as I thought that loading the NTDS file in Veeam Explorer for Active Directory would allow for me to restore the object to AD natively, however, that is not working or supported. It also doesn't sound like this will be an option as it was their recommendation to use Application Item restore, which obviously is not available in Veeam Backup for Microsoft Azure. It was also their recommendation to have me create this feature request.

This restore process should natively work in Veeam Backup for Microsoft Azure and we shouldn't have to go through a complex process to get something restored. Many organizations are moving to cloud only environments and I think this would be a HUGE benefit to many others.

Hi Jona,

I would recommend for now as a workaround to use VBR with agent backups for these VMs to benefit from the veeam explorers. Have you looked at this as an option?

Your request to enhance this within VBAz is noted but I cannot give an ETA for this integration.
