When will kb4773 be solved/QEMU 10.0 be supported?

Post by mkretzer »

Hello,

according to proxmox documentation:
Veeam Backup broken for VMs using QEMU machine version >= 10.0 -> https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Upgrade_fr ... _%3E=_10.0

When will this be solved?

I believe Veeam fixed it in plugin version 12.1.5.17, released on September 23, 2025. Proxmox VE 9 is now officially supported with Veeam Plug-in for Proxmox VE version 12.1.5.17.

From the Veeam KB4706 build numbers page, the fix is included in:
  • VBR 12.3.2.4165 includes plugin 12.1.5.17 automatically if upgrading from 12.3.1 or earlier
  • VBR 13+ all versions include support (13.3.0.237 released Nov 2025, 13.3.1.7 released March 2026)
One catch with VBR 12.3.2: if upgrading from VBR 12.3.2.3617 to 12.3.2.4165, the upgrade package does not include the updated plugin, it needs to be downloaded separately from the Previous Version Downloads page.

There's also a related but separate restore issue still to be aware of: when restoring a VM with a QEMU version lower than 10 and disks in QCOW2 format to a Proxmox VE 9 node, an error occurs if the destination storage has "Allow Snapshots as Volume-Chain" enabled, that's a different scenario documented in KB4773.

Basically, If you're on VBR 12.3.2.4165 or VBR 13.x with the latest Proxmox plugin, you no longer need to pin VMs to machine version 9.2+pve1 as a workaround. You can upgrade and let VMs use QEMU 10.0+.

I can verify that on VBR 12.3.2.4465 with proxmox plugin 12.1.5.17 backups jobs are running ok with the latest qemu machive version (10.x).
