Feature Request - Uninstall plug-ins in VSA

Post by mortenr »

I would like to request the option to uninstall/remove plugins from Veeam v13 backup server based on VSA image.
And specifically the option to uninstall 'default' hypervisors from the [Inventory] -> [Virtual Infrastructure] view in the console, where Nutanix AHV, Proxmox VE and Scale Computing Hypercore is preinstalled.
We do not use these hypervisors and their presence just clutters the interface and negatively impacts overview and productivity.

I have contacted support, who confirmed that this is default behavior in v13 and currently no options to mitigate this.

Hi Morten,

Thanks for the feedback, understood -- what is your take on the current look in the Web Console? I know it's only VMware and Hyper-V at the moment, but as we plan to move completely to the Web Console, our focus will be there, and I think the Web Console is a bit more concise in what it shows.

Honestly, due to the limitations in the web console, I have not used it very much yet.

The interface overall looks fine. The Overview sections gives a nice simple overview of the current state of the environment. Something that has been missing from the old console.

But I am not impressed with the 'Managed Servers' (inventory) view. It seems very cluttered right now and I fear that it will only get worse when more system types are added, particularly physical infrastructure (protection groups).
If you have a mix of virtual and physical infrastructure it will get very cluttered and having to limit it through the filtering is a very clunky process. I think it would be a more smooth experience with dynamic tabs for each server/infrastructure type added, similar to the way repositories are grouped.
At the very least, Veeam components should be separated from backup targets. Currently, my 'Managed Servers' view contains 23 elements, of which 22 are Veeam components (backup server, VMware proxies, general-purpose proxies, guest interaction proxies, mount servers and repositories).

Or is it just because the 'Infrastructure' section of the web console is a representation of the 'Backup Infrastructure' from the old console? In which case, the entire 'Inventory' part is missing, including things like being able to browse your VMs in vCenter.

In any case, it does not address the underlying issue of irrelevant plugins, that are still consuming system resources and may be a potential security concern. The web console in its current state just hides it from the user.

Understood, thank you for the detailed feedback, so two requests in essence:

1. Less cluttered / more customization in the console
2. Remove unneeded / unused plugins due to resource / potential security concerns

Consider the requests noted, but regarding the UI design, as mentioned the focus will be on the Web Console moving forward. Web Console is still a work in progress and we will be expanding the capabilities more in 13.1.
