Hi all,
we are starting to install RMAN Plug-in on Oracle Exadata servers. I know it is fully compatible but I have a simple question.
In case of Exadata upgrade, as per official documentation:
For updates that change the major Oracle Linux version number and for all other updates prior to Oracle Exadata System Software release 25.1.0, it is recommended that you have scripts to automate the removal and re-installation of additional non-Exadata software packages to run before and after the Oracle Exadata System Software update. Before re-installing any additional packages, you should verify that the additional packages are still required and compatible with the updated system software.
After this, I must reinstall RMAN plug-in and map the backup with the config tool?
OracleRMANConfigTool --map-backup
Is there anything else I need to do?
Thanks

Petr, dump question if there is existing backup and the servername did not change and the config file is still there, is the map-backup command even needed?
Hi Andreas, probably you're right... we're still deciding if use a VBR managed or standalone mode... and probably map-backup is not necessary.
We asking to the client to have a PoC for this.
I'll update this thread when it's possible.

@Andreas Neufert The question is absolutely relevant! Honestly, I thought the same, but then I realized that we remove the config file when the plug-in is uninstalled.
However, your question triggered another thought: do we really need mapping if the job already exists on the VBR side (this job is created automatically, and it will exist in the case above)? The answer is no, we don’t need to map anything if the job exists on VBR. However, you will need to go through the configuration wizard to reconnect the plug-in to VBR and generate a new config.
Also, if we’re talking about managed mode, then the plug-ins will be updated automatically as long as the setting "Enable auto-update for installed components" is enabled in the Protection Group settings.
