Question about the Veeam Backup Appliance and an External HDD

Hello,
Let's say we have a Veeam backup appliance installed on a physical server with a local hardened repo as backup target.
And we want to have an external HDD act as a secondary location for backup copies. Can this HDD be directly connected to the physical Veeam backup appliance? Will it automatically recognize it, to be added as a local backup repo?

Hi,

No, it can’t be connected to our appliances.
You’ll need to add your self-deployed Windows or Linux machine to the backup server configuration and use that system for the external HDDs.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but does this also rule out connecting our existing rotating RDX cartridges directly to the Veeam Appliance?

Hi Stephen,

No external or rotated storage is supported when connected to the Veeam Software Appliance.
We are working on support for external iSCSI and FC storage, but not for RDX.
