VB for M365 and VSA

Post by brendan » 1 person likes this post

Hi

apologies if not an appropriate post, but i just wanted to double check: VB for M365 isn't compatible with the VSA, so can't be installed/run on it?

Or it can be installed on the VSA, but you just need to manage it from a windows-based install?
I'm not currently in a position to test the VSA.

Is there a plan/timeline for VB for M365 to be integrated/compatible/installable on the VSA?

thanks!

Hi Brendan,

Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 components can’t be installed on the Veeam Software Appliance or Veeam Infrastructure Appliance.
- Our appliances are Linux based. The VB365 controller and Restore Portal can’t run on Linux-based machines.
- VB365 proxy components do support Linux based machines, but aren’t supported on either Veeam Appliance offering.

These appliances only support Veeam Backup & Replication and Veeam Cloud Connect deployments (for VCC, the Backup Server must be on Windows).

May I ask what your use case is? For example, is it about using the same backup storage for both products, or is there another scenario you’re trying to achieve?

Best regards,
Fabian

For me, it would be great to see the VIA working for the vb365 proxies as described here: veeam-backup-for-microsoft-365-f47/via- ... 00248.html
Since those are already linux compatible.

Of course a completly linux based vb365 would also be great to see

thanks Fabian :)

our current physical, windows based, Veeam server needs to be replaced in the near future.
we run both V&B server backups and M365 backups on it as we're a relatively small org.

I had just been wondering how viable the VSA option would have been for us going forward, as it seems like a much simpler solution than running Veeam on a windows server.
eg would be good to drop a windows server license, not have to worry so much about OS updates and vulnerabilities, etc.

I had seen something somewhere that not all features were available via the VSA web interface, but could be accessed/used/managed via a windows-based console installation.
I was pretty sure M365 backups weren't supported like this, but just wanted to double check :)
