Hello everyone,
I would like to ask if anyone has experience or insights regarding using Veeam Backup & Replication together with Thales Vormetric Data Security Platform (CipherTrust Vormetric).
Our customer is planning to deploy this encryption solution on general servers (physical and virtual), and we want to understand the potential impact on Veeam backup operations.
Environment / Design
- Encryption is implemented via a kernel-level module
- Specific mount points are protected and encrypted by Vormetric
- DB servers are excluded (not in scope for Veeam backup)
- Concern is mainly for standard file system / VM workloads
Key Questions
- Has anyone successfully used Veeam backup with Vormetric encryption?
- Does encryption on mount points affect snapshot creation or backup processing?
Any known issues related to:
- File system access
- Changed Block Tracking (CBT)
- Guest processing or file-level restore
Any recommended exclusions or best practices?
I have also opened a support case with Veeam:
Case #08076552
If anyone has similar experience, validation results, or guidance, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Re: Veeam Agent for Linux Backup Compatibility with Thales Vormetric (Kernel-Level File System Encryption)
Hi sync113,
We have not tested with this particular configuration, so cannot say supported or the expected outcomes.
I do not expect that backups or file level restores will work, but I would say test it still; file level backup mode may work as opposed to volume level, but would be eager to see the results of your testing.
