Delete files in C:\programdata\veeam\backup\system\checkpointremoval

Post by GianlucaCroci »

Hello,
the proxy server used to let Veeam communicate with the storage on the secondary site (for CopyJobs) was almost full this morning, despite it being a physical server and having an 800 GB disk (22 GB free).
Checking disk usage, I saw that the "C:\programdata\veeam" folder is taking up the most space, and especially "C:\programdata\veeam\backup\system\checkpointremoval."
I found the page "https://www.veeam.com/kb1825" where this issue is discussed, and checking the registry, under "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Veeam\Veeam Backup and Replication," I don't see any entries.
I assume you're using the default values, but currently, in the "checkpointremoval" folder, I have folders and files from 2024, which is when we started with this new storage.

Could you tell me which values would be correct in the variables indicated by the KB?
I've seen MaxLogCount and LogsArchivesMaxCount, which should be set to 10 by default.
I don't know what you think, but I'd like to have about 10 months of maximum logs.

Would these settings also apply to the main Veeam server? To the Enterprise Manager server and the various proxies (VMs and agents)?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi GianlucaCroci,

Use the options in The Windows Components section, That should assist with controlling the log growth on remote components, as those will host the logs for the datamover agents.

Thank's a lot

I haven't changed the log folder yet, because I wanna use a functional retention, so I'll have enough space.

I entered 10 for "AgentMaxLogCount," as indicated in the KB.
But how does it work? Because if I look at today, I've more than 10 log files of each type in a single day.
Furthermore, as I wrote, for every day from when we installed the storage to the current date, we've folders with log files. How can I reduce this number of folders (dates)?
Because here there is only:
- Log Directory Location
- Maximum Individual Agent Log File Size
- Maximum Individual Log Generations to Retain

Now I'm waiting for the server to restart to apply the changes.

Thanks again
