Managing VIA as a backup proxy and scaling

Post by MLang »

Hi folks,

we are currently planning to migrate our Veeam environment from a Windows-based backup server to the Veeam Software Appliance. As part of this process, we would also like to migrate our current ~ 30 backup proxies from Ubuntu to the Veeam Infrastructure Appliance. Until now, we have maintained a virtual template for the Ubuntu-based backup proxies and cloned the proxies from it during initial setup or as needed. What is the recommended procedure with the VIA? Can I use a template and clone from it initially? How do I then change the host certificates before adding the proxy to the backup server for the first time? Or is this not supported at all, and do I have to install 30 proxies individually? I couldn’t find any information on this in the documentation. Are there any best practices or other relevant guidelines for this? How do the rest of you do it?

Regards, Marc

Hi Marc,

Unattended installations will help with mass-deployment. I will also share a tool which helps automate the customization.

Basically, create an unattended installer and deploy from that. This post shares more details on an example workflow in their environment.
