Veeam Enterprise Manager question

Post by jcofin13 »

Hope this is the correct place for a question about VEM and hopefully a simple one.

WE have VEM emailing us the backup summary daily and it seems to take its data from the first time a backup instance runs. Often time this report says certain jobs fail on vms that error out on first run. While it might be true that the backup had an issue on certain vms, it almost always completes 100% successful on the (3) retries that are built into the job. Is there any way to have VEM just send out the end result and not just the result of of the first time the job runs?

This email goes out folks and it appears that the backups are constantly failing and this is not the case at all. There is no spot in the report that says yes it failed but completed on retry. As we try to meet compliance and policy its really confusing to get error reports and then chasing down the fact that its fine and working as designed. Lots of false positives. Is there a spot somewhere in here to set it so it only emails out summary report after the job has fully ran?

Hello,

Failed attempts are marked red for the reason. I recommend opening a support case to investigate the root cause issue.
The job should be successful, despite the retry mechanism, and if it alerts you, it is intended.
Enterprise manager sends the daily summary emails only, and for sure it will record all sessions in the body of the message - you can't avoid that.

I may assume that your internal system is triggered by the email subject? If that's the case, you may try changing some variables in the subject.

The default variables %1/%2/%3 count error/warning/success sessions over the last 24 hours - if you replace them with %4/%5/%6 - it will count the number of jobs whose last session ended with error/warning/success.

On the VBR side you may also try that option: Suppress notifications until the last retry

hmm...in all instances i have seen it will send you the first attempt backup result only. Not the final state of the backup after the retries. Its very confusing to get reports that say we had failures of random vms only to login to VBR and find we didnt because they completed fine on the retries. Its not every day and its not the same vms. Anyway....i see now that you can change the subject line summary of the daily email report by also entering %4, %5 and %6 for final state success, warnings and errors. I think this is what will help clear this up. Thank you for this.
