Migrate SOBR performance tier from local ReFS storage to OOTBI appliance

Post by MountainDrew42 »

Our current VBR v13 server is using a SOBR with local ReFS storage as the performance tier, and AWS S3 as the capacity tier. We just received our new Object First box and would like to replace the local storage with the OOTBI in the SOBR, while retaining the current AWS S3 bucket for the capacity tier. The SOBR is configured to immediately offload new backups to the capacity tier, and retain the copy in the performance tier for 45 days.

What's the lowest friction way to accomplish this migration without breaking backup chains? Does VBR v13 still not allow both block and object storage repos within the performance tier? Ideally I'd like to be able to just add the new storage to the SOBR and evacuate the backups from local storage to the OOTBI.

Any ideas on a migration path?

Oh, also, our ultimate goal is to migrate the VBR server from the current physical box (Windows 2016/SQL Express) into a new VM (Windows 2025/Postgres), since there will no longer be any local storage to worry about. I assume it's best to migrate the repos before migrating the server.

Also you can't have block and object storage in the performance tier so we can discuss how best to proceed in the PM. Here is the link to documentation about not being able to mix. https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vbr/u ... tml?ver=13
