I’m currently performing some tests with Linux storage repositories. Could someone provide me an opinion on which would be quicker for an Instant Restore/Quick Migration (or Storage vMotion) scenario.
1). Linux Repository connected (1Gbps) via CIFS to a Veeam VM Server located on the ESXi server where the instantly restored VM will be eventually be quick migrated (or Storage vMotion) to.
Or
2). A physical Windows 2008 R2 Veeam server, backups files stored locally, instantly restored VM will be eventually quick migrated (or Storage vMotion) to ESXi server across a 1Gbp network.
The machine in both case will be a 2.33Ghz Quad Core, 15k SAS disks, 2/4Gb RAM. We have only a small virtual infrastructure of 8-10 VMs across 2 hosts.
Any views appreciated.

Re: Instant Recovery / Quick Migration Scenario Opinions
Local backup repository means lower latency for vPower NFS, so is best for actual instant restore. And as far as migration performance, should be almost no difference between the two options.

Presumed that would be the case Anton but thanks for confirming.
