Recommended Veeam settings for rsync replication scenario

Post by Skyview »

Just wanted to know what I should be setting as far as storage and job setup to maximize efficiency of rsync replicating across the WAN via change block tracking.

Reverse or forward incrementals?

Veeam deduplication rate?

Veeam compression rate?

Any info would be appreciated.

I don't fully understand this part:

CBT is VMware technology unrelated to rsync.

To synchronize Veeam backups with rsync, I recommend the following settings:
  • Reversed incremental
  • Deduplication on
  • Low compression
And of course, be sure to create your rsync script in the way to make it in-place update the existing VBK, instead of creating new one (source VBK name will be updating after each job run). You can find some examples of the existing scripts on this forum.

Hope this helps.

Exactly what I was looking for, thank you. Yes I know CBT is technically VMWare, I was just trying to identify that the rsync script will only be transferring the changed blocks of the VBK file.

I was going to go with the script that creates hard links with a static VBK filename instead of the one that renames the actual vbk files.
