6.1 takes over 20 minutes to open after upgrade
Hello we installed the 6.1 Upgrade on one of our client's servers (upgrading from 6.0), they didn't have Enterprise Manager installed beforehand, so we didn't install the new version of Enterprise manager - just the Veeam Backup & Replication 6.1 application.
It seemed to go smoothly and once we restarted the server we couldn't wait to see the shiny new interface, however upon double clicking the desktop shortcut the splash screen appeared within a few seconds - but the server hung (so much so I couldn't even open task manager).
I went for a cup of tea and a chat came back about 20 minutes later and it was open, I check task manager and the application didn't seem to resource hungry - so I don't know why it's running so slow.
Whilst submitting this forum thread I thought I'd try again, it has now been 20 minutes stuck on that splash screen and the server is once again unresponsive
Yay... 21 minutes later it's open instantly "unlocks" the PC and it runs smoothly, cpu is barely stressed and memory usage is very low...
Here's some info which may be of use
OS: Windows Server
AV: Sophos
CPU: Intel Xeon 3.2GHz
RAM: 2GB of RAM
And there's plenty of free space

Maybe check the performance of the SQL instance that holds your Veeam database? Also...2GB of RAM? A bit underspec no? And AV software on your Veeam server can't be good either?

Yes, I would also check SQL Server performance, as we've seen almost similar behavior which was caused by a SQL Server issue.

Does not meet system requirements around required RAM. Please refer to the Release Notes document included with your download for minimal system requirements.Jamie Pert wrote:OS: Windows Server

Re: 6.1 takes over 20 minutes to open after upgrade
Thanks for your answers guys, I guess it's a RAM issue - what's weird is that when the application is opening and eventually open my PF usage sits at just 1.55GB (which means there is still ~500MB of free system RAM which is not being utilzied. I think I will look into the RAM upgrade anyway as it may help with overall Veeam performance and job times.

Also my SQL knowledge isn't great, is there an easy way to check SQL performance?

Just check that your SQL Server CPU usage is not very high as well as disk read/write rates are compatible with the hardware your SQL Server is running on.

I've upgraded about 10 - 15 customers, experienced this issue only 1 time
The interface need 10 - 15 - 20 minutes to load
Backups are running fine

Re: 6.1 takes over 20 minutes to open after upgrade
Indecently it seems to be opening faster today, perhaps it takes a while for the database to "sort itself" - that said I will look into a RAM upgrade anyway.

Re: 6.1 takes over 20 minutes to open after upgrade
I'm having the same issue on 1 of many servers, takes nearly forever to open but once open is fine. Server meets min specs. Any ideas?

Brian, please contact our support team and let them see this issue live, as it is impossible to guess what the UI is doing during this time without debug logs investigation. Most likely cause is SQL database performance.

Thanks, will do. Backups seem to process totally fine which is the strange thing. I'll touch base with support.

Stale DNS perhaps? What does the client need to contact when it starts?

Re: 6.1 takes over 20 minutes to open after upgrade
I have the same problem since the upgrade to 6.1
It should be noted that this problem is only when connecting to the server remotely with RDP. Start times are fine if connected to console.
If I connect to console and start "Task Manager" and then, concurrently, I connect with a Remote Desktop session to launch the Veeam backup console I can determine that the system is essentially sitting idle.
One way to can get it 'unstuck' is by launching the task manager in your RDP session. Once Veeam is in its start loop the RDP session is VERY slow, making it somewhat of a challenge to start the task manager. Once you manage to click on "Task Manager" you need to wait another minute or two for it to show up, but once it does, so will the veeam console.
For reference the OS is a Win2003r2 x64 with vCenter/Veeam Backup/Veeam ONE all installed in a single virtual machine.
Veeam ONE is still running 6.0 and its start time is okay.
My guess is that this bug is related to the new GUI in Veeam 6.1 with older systems like Win2003.
Let me know if there are tests I can do, or logs I can supply.

The best bet will be to also contact support and provide them full logs for investigation.

1 page worth of posts, and NO ONE still mentioned their support case ID. Guys, seriously, how do you expect us to facilitate moving this issue forward for you?

Enterprise Manager extremly slow after upgrade to 6.1
[merged]
Hi
I upgraded our Enterprise Manager from v5.0.2 to v6.1.
Its installed on a dedicated VM with 1 vCPU and 2.5GB of memory.
OS is Win2003 Server Std SP2.
In v5 the EM was fast and usable. (even with 1GB of Memory)
Now it takes minutes to even log in. (or times out)
The SQL Instance is going crazy, hovering at 98% most of the time...
Does anyone experience the same issue after the upgrade?
Greets
Felix

Re: 6.1 takes over 20 minutes to open after upgrade
After I tested a little bit. The best way to start Veeam B&R 6.1 on Windows 2003 Server is to start task manager before starting the GUI. You go back to task manager and it task only few seconds to have the interface! Thanks for the hint about starting task manager!

This issue is addressed in Patch 1 (see the sticky topic regarding that).

I have the same problem with the same work around. I will try to install Patch 1 tonight.
