Backup Proxy using Network instead of fibre

Post by GnuSean »

I have a Veeam Backup server (VM) and a Proxy/Repo server (both Windows 2008 R2 SP1). The Proxy/Repository server has a Fibre HBA, and in the SAN has Read-Only access to the vmfs volumes used by the esxi hosts. We are running vSphere 5 / esxi 5.0.

On the Proxy server I can see the vmfs volumes in DiskManagement MMC, they are listed as "Offline". The server has been configured with Automount = Disabled, and SAN Policy : Offline All.

I have done nothing with iSCSI - I planned on using the HBA for SAN access.

I had thought this was all I needed to do to get direct SAN access set up, but every backup I do still seems to go over the network. I've even chosen "Direct SAN access" as the transport mode - and it still seems to go over the network. I have a feeling I have left something out - but I cannot figure out what it is.

Any advice on getting this working?

Thanks!

Did you setup this access prior to installing the proxy service? If so, you need to force a rescan of the storage by selecting the server from the "Managed Servers" tree and selecting "Rescan".
