Active full backup and Reversed incremental job

I tried to search for answer but was unable to grab one...

What is the utility of performing an active full backup in a reverse incremental job ?
If i understand well, the .vbk is always a full backup, so what good does a periodic full backup ?

(Using vsphere 5.01 and VB&R 6.1)

Florian, it is advised to perform active fulls periodically to avoid possible corruption of the backup chain. Here is a good reading on that.

Though, it is just up to your backup policy. If you are ok with synthetic backup, than you do not need to do this. Sometimes companies require that data is natively copied periodically rather than assembled by the backup software. But if you use SureBackup to test your backups, you can be sure you will be able to recover from any restore point.

You mean that reverse incremental could produce a corrupted .vbk file, unless i use a periodic synthetic full backup ?

I mean that if one of the job runs has corrupt data, it will be built into the vbk file and could then be carried forward into each subsequent restore point in the chain (as each restore point is created from the previous one). The longer the chain is, the greater the possibility of corruption. This is well-explained in the thread referred above.

A last question, if i check "enable automatic backup integrity checks", will this warn me if i have a corruption problem in my backup chain ? it could be an option for the lazzy, to rely on this check and perform full backup "manually" in case of corrupted backup.

Yes, this will ensure physical data integrity, but this is not enough to be 100% sure in backup recoverability.
