Backing up to a remote Repository

Post by rubeng »

Hi,

I'm encountering some issues regarding backing up to a remote repository.

Case:

We have some customers with their own ESXi host and Veeam B&R, and they want to have a copy of their VMs at our datacenter for security.

So, just for testing in our environment, I've decided to add a remote repository which is located on my datacenter at home. And, I've created a new job to backup one of our production desktop VMs, and use my remote repository at home as a storage location.

But, the job just fails printing the error:

Code: Select all

Error: Client Error: No such host is known.
Maybe I've gotten the port forwarding wrong in my datacenter at home or something..

Hope you have an idea that can help me out, thanks!

Hello Ruben,

Make sure all required ports are open and remote repository is accessible by the Veeam backup server/proxy server (and vice versa). If the configuration looks good, please contact our support team to investigate the backup job debug log file, as it is hard to guess what's wrong without seeing full information from the logs.

Thank you.

This indicates DNS issue. Make sure your production DNS names are resolvable at your home location.

Thanks for quick replies Vitaliy and Gostev.

I will take another good look at the ports.

After googling this issue, I came to the same conclusion that it could be a DNS issue, but I haven't yet figured out the problem.
