Hi
Our vmware environment is 9 hosts and approx 300 vm guests Windows and Linux.
ESXi host is release 4.1 update 1 and connected with nexus 1000v with 2x10 Gbit uplink
We just installed veeam B&R 6.1 with two proxy using hot-add configuration, a veeam manage vm, also two linux vm's
for NFS connection to our DataDomain all virtual vm's.
All veeam and linux vm's uses VMXNET3 i/f for 10 Gbit connection.
During a backup job for two small windows vm all our Cisco nexus 1000v physical NIC's go down/up with a couple minutes interval
all ESXi host loses connection (port channel down) and the up after 2-4 seconds.
Any seen this problem?
Solution?

Re: Nexus 1000v lost connection during backup
Dennis, do you see this occurring at the same stage of the backup job each time? What stage (you can see the particular operation in the Statistics window available in the job's shortcut menu)? Are you aware of the possible connectivity issues during VM snapshot commit?

Re: Nexus 1000v lost connection during backup
Hi Dennis,
This is Sai Chaitanya from the Nexus 1000V.
We need to identify why the physical NIC are flapping here - Has any PNIC property (MTU, speed...) changed or has the upstream port flapped. If possible can segregate management and data vlans on to different PNICs as a workaround.
Can you please collect the following outputs -
show tech-support details on VSM
"vem-support all" from the host
VMKernal logfile from /var/log/vmkernel.log from the host.
Please launch a case with Cisco TAC for initial troubleshooting.
Thanks,
Sai Chaitanya

Re: Nexus 1000v lost connection during backup
Hi,
I will submit a case to Cisco we just want to hear what Veeam support has to say about this behavior.
This is what's happen when the backup progress has reach approx 26% and it's only happens when we run multiple
backups job, single jobs is running without disturbance. Unfortunately we have not been able to reproduce this in our vmware lab environment so we must run all test in our production vmware cluster....

To be able to hear from Veeam support, you need to open a case with them. This is not a support forum, so kindly please do not post log snippets here, as requested when you click New Topic.
