Veeam backup server multiple nics.
Hi
I have an issue with my veeam backups.
over the last few days ive had 1 vm that fails constantly, I think i have found the problem but im not sure how to solve it.
The server has 4 nics with different networks assigned.
I try to backup over 1 ip address however in veeam i see that the software tries to use another nic attachted to the server.
In vmware the nic order is correct in the summary screen the correct ip address is displayed. within Windows the adapter order is also correct with the nic i will use on top.
however i see that veeam grabs the wrong nic.
How can i ensure that veeam uses the correct nic for backups?
Many thanks,

Re: Veeam backup server multiple nics.
Hello,
What kind of errors do you see while running backup job against this VM? Be aware that as of version 5, Veeam backup job does not require direct network connection from Veeam Backup server to the backed up VM, Guest OS might be accessed via VMware Tools API (VIX).
Thanks!

Hi Vitality,
as i am pretty new to veeam i wil have a look in the logs on the client server and see if i can find anything,
however the error message is an rpc error message 1722 and the ip address that i see is 10.x.25.1 this should be 10.x.16.253.
if i find any thing i the log ill post back asap.
thanks very much for the quick response.

Hi Foggy,
Sorry for posting the log snippets.
I have followed the topic and have tried kb1174 and the microsoft kb154596 unfortunatly this has not helped.
I shall ask the firewall boys to have a lookie but as far as i can remember the ports 5000-5100 are open,
regards
sonic

Firewall shouldn't be an issue, since VMware Tools is everything you need to access backed up VMs. I would recommend to contact our technical support team to review your debug log files. Just trying to save you from wild goose chasing here.

Re: Veeam backup server multiple nics.
just a quick update, ive been looking through the logs and i see that veeam is now trying to use port 2501 instead of 5000-5100.
just thought i would update my post so if anyone else has a similar issue perhaps a quick look in the logs will shed some light.
Still not sure why its using this port instead of the other ones but thats a job for tomorrow.
regards
Sonic
