Some fun - CA ARCserve r16 Outperforms Veeam Backup

Post by m.novelli »

Veeam Team, in addition to the Symantec blog post, you should blog also about this:

I was using CA backup software 10 years ago for some customers, it was a nightmare...

"The More Enemies, the More Honor".

Seriously, if this would have been true, why my two last engagements where right about dismissing Brighstor in favor of Veeam, with customers complaining right about "speed" and "ease of use"?

Bah, FUD factory is always open...

X paid Y to produce report showing X is faster than Veeam... feel free to assign names to the variables.

Give me any product, and I will find the way to setup competing products in a way they will crawl and lose any benchmark. This is the reason why VMware does not allow for publishing any benchmarks without their prior review. I think, we are adding the same restriction to our EULA to prevent such BS comparisons...

On the other hand, I guess there is no better testament that we are true #1 these days... just about everyone is now comparing themselves with us. Not that we ever run into CA in the competitive situations (they simply never make a short list), but good to know they believe they are so much better than Veeam  why oh why we replace them left and right then?

I have only glimpsed at the report, but there are a few things that caught my eye which I found particularly amusing:
- How they compare half-hour full VM restores while avoiding Instant VM Recovery (since they ain't got one)
- How they are claiming our dedupe is resource intensive (when it uses little to no CPU cycles)

The dedupe portion stood out the most to me as well. Knowing how our dedupe works, that part didn't make any sense at all.

It's been in our EULA for a while now...

http://www.veeam.com/eula.html

Section 8: ... End User will not disclose, transfer or otherwise make available the Software, or the results of any benchmark or other tests of the Software, to any third party without the prior written consent of Veeam.
