Quick migration vCenter
Hi,
may i use Quick migration for move the vCenterVM from one datastore to another?
I would select the vm through the host where it is recorded.
Does that migration job change the backup job like replica failback?
Thanks,
Carlo

Re: Quick migration vCenter
Hi Carlo,
Yes, you can use standalone ESX(i) hosts to migrate your vCenter Server VM from one datastore to another. Also since Quick Migration jobs do not use VSS while creating VM snapshot, I guess there shouldn't be any issues even if you trigger vCenter Server migration job via vCenter Server connection.
Thanks!

Not sure I understand what you're referring to, can you please clarify?pcrebe wrote:Does that migration job change the backup job like replica failback?

No, Quick Migration job does not modify backup/replication jobs that process the migrated VM (no need to do that, it's a different scenario).Vitaliy S. wrote: Not sure I understand what you're referring to, can you please clarify?

if Quick Migration doesn't use VSS do you think is better shutdown a VM that is a DC before migrate it?Vitaliy S. wrote:

Hi Carlo, just to be on the safe side you can do that or alternatively use replication job to migrate your DC VM. Thanks!

Re: Quick migration vCenter
Hi,
I've migrated my vCenter from one datastore to another in the same esxi host, the replication job starts without issue and i didn't change anything in the job.
Thanks

Re: Quick migration vCenter
Storage migration doesn't re-register the VM in the VI and since you were using the same ESXi host, it is expected that the moref ID didn't change. Good to know that everything worked well.

[MERGED] migrate vCenter server to different datastore
Hi
I've used quick migration a few times now on small VM's and it's worked fine
I just have a DC to move, the Veeam server and the vCenter server itself
Are there any extra steps/precautions/good to know/gotchas with migrating vcenter?
Cheers
Jason

Re: Quick migration vCenter
Jason, you should be ok with migrating vCenter server provided you're doing it via standalone hosts connection, not vCenter server itself.
Also, see this thread for details on Quick Migration of the Veeam B&R server.
