Backup console is not compatible with proxy

Hello,

We are seeing the following error which is causing backups to fail:

Backup console is not compatible with proxy 'veeam'. Backup server version: '6.5.0.106'.

I can't find anything on the forum to suggest what might cause this error. Does the proxy server need to be reinstalled?

Yes, I haven't seen this error message either. Re-installing the backup proxy role on this server should be a simple fix for this problem.

I've tried removing and adding the proxy again but I get an error "Failed to connect to transport service on host 'This server'.

Is there a quick way to resolve that?

Steve, have you tried to remove the proxy component from the proxy server manually after removing it from the console?

Anyway, you'd better contact our technical support team directly so that they could define the exact reason of this behavior via debug logs review. I seem to remember having similar problem in my lab after upgrading Veeam B&R version but cannot recall how I managed to fix it.

Just to post the solution for this for future reference.

We had somehow managed to get different versions of the Veeam components installed during an upgrade. As a result the proxy server was version 6.5.0.109 while everything else was on version 6.5.0.106.

Getting an older copy of the proxy server component, copying it to the server and restarting the service fixed the problem.

Recently had to re-instal due to Server issues, has same issue as I only re-installed Veeam (not other components). I ran same patch (6.1) to upgrade Veeam, then when I started, it automatically upgraded other components (proxy etc).

Yes, this is how it is supposed to work - all components are upgraded to the Veeam B&R main console version automatically. However, in OP's case, he had the proxy running newer version than the console for some reason.

Good afternoon! We are planning to move to VMware vCenter Server 6.0. Now we use Veeam B&R 6.5.0.144. Compatible whether these products? Can we use the old version VeeamB&R of the backup server on the new vCenter Server 6.0.

Albert, your Veeam B&R version does not support vSphere 6. Support for vSphere 6 was added in Veeam B&R v8 Update 3. So you would need to upgrade first (you can upgrade directly to v8 and then install the latest update).

I had the same issue. Both of my server are with same version 9.5 update 2. Here is what you can try:

1. go to C:\Windows\Veeam\Backup and Replication
2. Make sure "VeeamDeploymentDll.dll" and "VeeamDeploymentSvc.exe" are same version by going into properties of these files and Details tab.
3. Most likely they are not the same version. In that case copy both of these files from another Veeam server which are same version. in my case 9.5.0.1922

I also had a similar issue for the following error:

In case it helps anyone else
I had to copy the Backup Transport files from a working server:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Veeam\Backup Transport

Then restarted veeam services and it started working
