Exchange 2010 Backup Question

Post by Profex »

Hello Veeam Experts,

we Use Veeam 6.5 in Trial Testing for our VM Infrastructure, we want to Backup our Exchange 2010 VM Machine.
We installed Veeam Explorer for Exchange & Veeam Microsoft Exchange Restore.

My Question: what i have to install on the Exchange 2010 Machine ?

must i install an Agent or is the Backup for Exchange Mails agentless '?

also for SQL 2008 the same, must i install an Agent ?

thx to all for Answer!

Hi, Andre.

There is no need in any additional agents for backing up Exchange or SQL server, all can be done by the means of VB&R Server and so-called proxy servers.

While backing up such VMs make sure you enable application-aware image processing functionality in the job settings. It’s Veeam’s proprietary technology responsible for creating a transactionally consistent backup of a VM running VSS-aware applications (such as Active Directory, Microsoft SQL, Microsoft Exchange, Sharepoint, etc) without shutting them down. It also ensures successful VM recovery, as well as proper recovery of all applications installed on the VM without any data loss. This function also notifies applications about them being backed up.

You can read more about it in our FAQ topic or in User Guide (p.9).

Hope this helps.

Thanks.
