Proxy Server Role
Hello,
I have 5 VM's setup, where VM1 act as the main backup server and VM2/3/4/5 are the Proxies. I'm planning to use one of the VM2/3/4/5 as additional backup server that would then backup the VM1. Will I get in any issues? or is this no from best practice?
Thx

Re: Proxie Server Role
Will work, just note that the number of concurrent tasks per proxy is counted within each backup server independently. However, is there any reason to do that as starting from v6.0 patch 3 virtual Veeam server can backup itself (even with app-aware image processing enabled)?

Re: Proxie Server Role
No specific reason. Just assumed that's the way to go. I can't replicate at that time. Setting up VM1 to backup itself would be the better solution then? Setup of a regular Backup job, pointing to VM itself, correct?

Re: Proxy Server Role
The better way would be to set one of the proxies VM2/3/4/5 to backup VM1 to be able to use hotadd and CBT.

Re: Proxy Server Role
Update: We did set one of the proxies VM2/3/4/5 to backup VM1 (Main Backup Server) but the virtual disk (VM1) got unmounted after the backup job completed. Not sure what the issue is at that point. Thanks

Re: Proxy Server Role
Could you please clarify, what virtual disk do you mean and what the issue is? I'm not sure I get what you meant. Thanks.

Re: Proxy Server Role
We have 5 VM's setup, where VM1 act as the main backup server and VM2/3/4/5 are the Proxies. We also setup VM5 5 as additional backup server that would then backup the VM1 over night when nothing else is running. Somehow, VM5 is mounting the virtual disk (c:) of VM1. The actual backup job on VM5 only backups up VM1's system disk.

Re: Proxy Server Role
I meant to say "Somehow, VM5 is dismounting the virtual disk (c:) of VM1". I assume after job completion because the backup job on VM5 shows success.

Re: Proxy Server Role
Are you using a hot add backup mode to process your VM1 server? Have you checked VMware VM logs for VM1 for the reason of this dismount?
