problems upgrading virtual hardware & VCB

Post by drbarker »

Morning all,

We've already upgraded to vsphere, and are in the process of upgrading the VM's virtual hardware to version 7.

The conversions are all going OK, but VCB backups are breaking. I'm seeing the following in the logs:

[20.08.2009 02:08:33] <17> Info vcbMounter: [2009-08-20 02:08:33.682 'vcbMounter' 3764 error] Error: Other error encountered: Snapshot creation failed: Another task is already in progress.
[20.08.2009 02:08:33] <17> Info vcbMounter: [2009-08-20 02:08:33.682 'vcbMounter' 3764 error] An error occurred, cleaning up...

BUT - In the VI client, there are no active tasks or snapshots active for the VM.

As a workaround, a one time reset of the ESXi management agents fixes things - I'm inclined to blame vSphere for this one, but I thought I'd ask here to see if anyone else has seen the issue :-)

Just one thing comes to my mind, have you upgraded VCB to the vSphere version too?

Yup - it's the latest vcb code. As I said, it's not a major problem for us.

At least if anyone else hits the problem, google will have indexed this thread :-)

drbarker. I ran into this recently. This is a vSphere issue with the ESX host. When Veeam goes to create the snapshot, it bombs, because vSphere4 itself can't create the snapshot.

There's a number of references on google if you do a quoted search for "Another task is already in progress".
Here's the thread I found most helpful: http://communities.vmware.com/message/1 ... BA61744CEB

Good luck!
