HP 4300 Series D2D

Post by chg_it »

Hi all,

We've just signed off a two system solution for storing Veeam backups and will be replicating one setup at our DC to a remote site.

We will be working with a supplier to implement but I just wanted to ask if anyone has any experience and thus recommendations when using these D2D appliance to store Veeam backups?

Many thanks

Hi, we are using HP D2D internally at Veeam (mostly for QC purposes). Not sure if we have this specific model, but I believe same series anyway, and it seem to be working really well. Recommendations are quite standard, just like for any other dedupe storage - that is, to use No or Dedupe-friendly compression levels.

We don't have a second unit offsite though, but this should be working extremely well and traffic-efficient as well from what I know.

Thanks!

Hi Gostev,

One up from us then! Are you using 10Gbe? Fibre?

What kind of throughput are you getting?

We're backing up from our HP LeftHand SAN's.

Cheers

Actually, we are using just 1 Gb, and I believe source storage performance is still the limiting speed factor. The storage in QC labs is not too fancy ;)

Thanks Gostev, useful info. We're going to be in a similar position but looking to upgrade SAN connectivity to Gbe next year.

Hi Gostev,

One other question for you - do you use NFS or CIFS for your backup shares on the HP D2D appliances?

Many thanks

I use CIFS to backup on it.
