Numbered replica directories

Post by JosueM »

Good day everyone,

There are main directories named *replica_[1-50] on the destination storage of replication jobs, some of them contains .vmx, .nvram and .vmxf. and some does not contain any files. Is it safe to delete such folders?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Josue,

Do these folders contain any active VMs (VMs being replicated)? If not, then feel free to remove these folders from the target datastores.

Thanks!

Hello Vitality,

None of them contain data about replicated VMs but it looks curious that there a lot of that folders that include in the folder name the name of some of the replicated VMs. I wonder why or what could be the cause for the creation of those folders.

Thanks

These folders could be created by previous replication jobs that were replicating these VMs. Could this be the case in your situation?

Well I guess they could be created by replication jobs somehow cuz nobody created them manually. Already deleted them so if in the future they appear again and contains no data about replicated VMs would be safe to erase them I guess.

I did not find product documentation about if this is the normal/expected behavior or if this is some kind of error on the replication jobs.

thanks.

Josue, these folders shouldn't be created under normal conditions. If you happen to see this happening again, please open a support ticket with our technical team. Thanks!

Hi Josue, could you check how old are those folders? In previous versions of VBR up until 5.0, replica had its own proprietary file format and it was used to save replica files in dedicated subfolders. Maybe they are simply remnants of old replica jobs...

Hello Luca, I already erased them but they all were recent. I just starting with VBR and the first and only server installed is 6.5. Thanks for the help if this happens again I will open a support ticket.
