Host Disk Labels for CSVs

Post by fortch »

In all of our Hyper-V clusters being monitored, ONE is showing us alerts for Host Disk Read/Write Latency, and they are in the friendly name format (much better than a GUID!) ... like HarddiskVolume205. Problem is, there is no direct translation with the actual disk in ONE. Our CSVs are on an aging EMC CX700 using native MPIO, and each cluster has a dozen or so, and this makes it confusing for our admins to address quickly. So far, only using tools like WinObj (Sysinternals) works, and although it's easy enough, its another couple of steps to ID it properly. Having monitoring like this is nice, but this specific issue is a drag for such a great product. Are there plans to address translating symlink labels for what is essentially mount points?

Hi Chris,

Yes, you're not the only one who has faced this challenge and we are going to address this in our next major update. On a side note, can you please tell me what Hyper-V version are you using in your environment? Is it 2012 Hyper-V server?

Thanks!

Our Hyper-V environment is all Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise SP1 -- the only 2012 servers we have are for testing only (waiting on SCVMM 2012 SP1).

Ok, thanks for the information. If you had been on 2012 I would have suggested you a workaround for this problem. ;)
