Replication and Dedupe

Post by PaulVM »

I'm planning to turn on replication to a DR site and trying to work out the bandwidth requirements.

I can see on my daily backup jobs something like 100GB pre dedup and then 37GB transferred.

If I used replication would all the 100GB go over the wire or just the 37GB?

If you have proxy server set up on the target side, the data will cross the WAN compressed and deduped and will be uncompressed by the target proxy. Note that you also can seed the replica job by sending your backup files offsite (using some external media, for example) and then have only incremental job runs.
