WAN backup issues

Post by NEM4EVER »

Hi,

We are trying to setup a backup service for our customers where we manage the customers VM backup through their vCenter / ESXi hosts from our Veeam B&R 6.5 (using a WAN connection between the sites).

We can manage to install the proxy and repository remotely and see the customers vCenter or ESXi host - but from here on it stops.
We are simply not able to startup the backup.

We have followed the guidelines for the necessary ports to open in our and the customers firewall but keep running into problems. Veeam support suggest that we
use a VPN from the customers to our site - but thats not an option in most instances.

Anyone doing this already - please advise :-)

I hope you are not trying to just open the ports and run backups over "naked" internet...You do want either a private link or VPN. It will introduce a bit of overhead, but it would make all of this: a- easier, b - more secure.

Ulrik, I would agree that VPN is preferred in such scenarios. Also, please review this existing topic, should give you some insight.
