VSSFreezer errors with Win2008x64 VMs

Post by Aubrey »

I cannot get VSS enabled backups to work on Win2008 x64 servers. I keep getting the following error:

Retrieving file list VSSFre
ezer: Failed to connect. Errors: "C
annot connect to the host's administrat
ive share. Host: [192.168.72
.19]. Account: [atl-ppetpv

ct]. Win32
error:Acces
s is denied. Code: 5 Cannot connect to the host's administrat
ive share. Host: [192.168.72
.19]. Account: [atl-ppetpv
19\#vmprote
ct]. Win32
error:Acces
s is denied. Code: 5 "

I can manually connect to the admin share without a problem and access files. The audit logs on the VM show audit login success. This is a problem with VSS on any 2008 server. Not being able to run transactionally consistent backups on these VMs is a deal breaker for us. Any help would be appreciated.

So you have File and Printer Sharing enabled on your 2008 guests, and you can connect to the host's admin share when logged on with atl-ppetpv19\#vmprotect account? Also, please let me know what Veeam Backup version are you using? See Help|About.

Veeam VSS on Windows 2008 x64 is fully tested and supported.

Aubrey;

It would be best to gather your logs from Help|Support information and forward them to support at veeam.com for further assistance with this error. It appears that it is permission based issue, but we need to dig in the logs to see for certain.

Thanks!

Gostev is correct, this issue is corrected in most cases with latest version of Veeam Backup, as well as enabling File and Printer Sharing.

Thanks!
